The Adidas design academy is a traineeship within Adidas. To apply you must go through a long selection of 4 rounds: CV + portfolio, Challenge Assignment, Telephone interview, Live interview. Adidas Boost was my entry for the 2nd round challenge and got me into the 3rd round. The assigment was to re-imagine an adidas sports shoe and combine both performance and style. I choose to combine my experience with Augmented Reality with the sports shoe.

Approach
At this time Augmented Reality wasn't that popular yet and Google Glass was the state of the art. I wanted to combine the capabilities of a product such as Google Glass with the miCoach system of Adidas and share the experiences of users through social media.
I presented adidas style boost, a platform that combines the performance tracking and setting of goals of the miCoach system with a whole new experience boosting your performance and your style.
Most important part of adidas style boost are the specially designed style boost shoes that are not only suited for running, but also for performing your best moves on the dance floor. During your run they will make your goals and run come alive by coming alive themselves. The red-black color scheme in combination with the QR-code patterns make them perfect for digital image mapping and identification.
When looking at them through your smartglasses during your run you will see the progress you are making for your current goal. The more progress you make the cooler they will look. For instance bursts of energy can shoot out of the back when you are doing that difficult sprint part of the training or a wave of stars and colours appear when you finally reached your goal. Other adidas style boost runners can also see you and your increase in style during your performance.

Imagine the following: you are on a night out with friends in one of the coolest clubs in town.
You are wearing your adidas style boost shoes with pride and have been training and filling up your style boost meter. Suddenly you hear your favourite tune and make your way to the dance floor. You start dancing and at just the right moment you click your heels together, igniting your ultimate style boost. In a whirlwind of stars, light and energy you perform your sickest move and before you know it everybody is filming you with their smart glasses and you are the trending topic on all social media.
