Objective
The light element is the next iteration in the Glowing Lines project. Although the Glowing Lines project is visionary and beautiful, there were some aspects that needed improvement to make it suitable for mainstream use and maintenance. The final deliverable was a pilot project with the new design on the N329 highway near Oss, the Netherlands.

Approach
The Business Model Canvas and Value Propositioning techniques were used to analyze the Glowing Lines project and get a starting point for the light element. We came up with several ideas and narrowed this down through quick prototyping and testing.
Prototyping + Testing
For the light element I did a lot of prototyping. Different shapes were explored by using a 3D-printer. The most promising options were made in the final material and installed in a slab of asphalt to be tested further.
Sourcing + Quality Control
It required working closely with suppliers in Europa and Asia. Each part and material was tested in-house at Heijmans in the lab. I designed, made and conducted most of these tests and set-up the quality control.
Production
I was responsible for the production process and made the production tooling, instruction manuals and handled the logistics of the different parts of external suppliers.
Construction
The light element has been implemented on 500 metres of highway on the N329 in Oss, the Netherlands. We designed the process of installing the light element in the road, instructed the different teams of Heijmans roadworkers and were in charge of logistics and planning. The installation was a succes and finished in time.
